India Covid Relief Response

Date: 14 May, 2021

Khalsa Aid International is delighted to have received a generous six-figure donation from J.K. Rowling’s Volant Charitable Trust (https://www.volanttrust.org/) to our Medical Covid-19 Relief Appeal for oxygen concentrators, as well as emergency medical equipment in India.

A second wave of COVID-19 has left many hospitals without oxygen supplies or available beds. Hospitals and health centres across India are struggling to cope with the sheer numbers of new cases. Patients in critical conditions are being turned away, many dying at home without access to medical help.

Since 25 of April 2021, Khalsa Aid International has been mobilising a global response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in India. We have been working in partnership with NGOs, corporates and local and national Government to provide vital medical equipment such as oxygen concentrators, ventilators, tanks and broader medical equipment.

Ravi Singh, CEO of Khalsa Aid said: We're overwhelmed with the support from J.K Rowling’s Volant Charitable Trust. We would like to say a huge thank you for the generous donation. JK Rowling is a hero to us just like all our volunteers and supporters who help to deliver aid where it is needed. We are all witnessing a humanitarian crisis in India and we all need to help in whatever way we can.

Khalsa Aid volunteers across the globe have been working tirelessly behind the scenes coordinating shipments of medical supplies. The donations will help towards frontline response to the pandemic. Together - we can protect more people from the worst effects of this outbreak and get medical supplies urgently to where they need to be.

We are currently witnessing a humanitarian crisis in India of proportions never witnessed before as medical infrastructure is buckling under the pressure of the global pandemic. There have been at least 300,000 new infections every day in the past week, with cases continuing to rise at unprecedented levels.

We are immensely grateful to all those who have donated oxygen concentrators, of which the first batch of 200 are on its way with Virgin Atlantic and will be on the ground in Delhi Saturday 1st May 2021.

As Panjab now prepares for an increasing number of Covid-19 cases, we are launching a Panjab and India Medical Appeal.

We are currently supporting medical networks across India, comprising of established medical organisations, facilities and NGO’s who are working on the ground to assist COVID-19 patients.

Your generous donations will go towards our vital medical programmes to support vulnerable communities and people across India.
