Eye Camps
Free Eye Check-Up and Operation Camps at Gurmat Bhawan
For the past 37 years, Gurmat Bhawan has been a beacon of hope and sight, organizing three free eye check-up and operation camps annually. These camps cater to a large number of patients of the neighboring regions, with each camp seeing between 600 to 800 outpatient examinations. The camps offer free medication and a range of eye care services to those in need.
The Legacy
The success of these camps is made possible by the generous support of the regular sponsors. Names of Dhata Foundation, Canada, and Manjit Singh and family of Ladhian Khurd from Kent, UK are worth mentioning here. We, at Gurmat Bhawan, remain deeply grateful and ever indebted to them.
The testimonial would remain incomplete if the untiring, 24/7 services of our team of dedicated volunteers is not mentioned here.
Over the past 37 years a total of 99 camps have been held, with OPD numbers exceeding 70,000, more than 18,000 refraction conducted, over 900 Yag laser treatments performed and Cataract surgeries surpassing 14,000.
These services, provided entirely free of cost, represent a significant saving for patients, as a similar procedure can cost anywhere between ₹ 20,000 to 25,000 elsewhere. Gurmat Bhawan continues to uphold this noble tradition bringing vision and hope to countless individuals.
Additional Services
In addition to Cataract surgery the free camps offer Yag laser treatments for patients who need them.
Squint surgeries especially for the young are also offered to the underprivileged lot.
Comprehensive Eye Care Services
During these camps, patients undergo a thorough screening process. Cataract patients are identified and shortlisted based on medical fitness tests such as blood pressure, blood sugar levels and intraocular tension. Once deemed fit, a detailed pre-susbical evaluation is conducted, and the final list of patients is prepared and registered for surgery.
The Cataract surgery performed at these camps involves the extraction of the defective lens and the implantation of an intraocular lens through a small incision (SIS) procedure. This advanced technique ensures minimal discomfort and quicker recovery for the patients. Post operative care is provided in house for three days to ensure proper recovery, followed by a regular three month follow up to monitor the patient’s progress.
